01Locate before opening the ground
A provider should explain the suspected failure and how it has been assessed. The wettest patch is not always directly above the damaged pipe. Utility locations and the route of the service line also need consideration.
02Decide whether a spot repair fits
An isolated damaged connection may be approached differently from a line with widespread deterioration. Ask whether the repair addresses the cause and how previous failures or remaining pipe condition affect the recommendation.
03Plan access and interruption
Discuss the expected access area, coordination of water shutoff and what you need to do before the appointment. Do not operate a city curb valve or dig to inspect a buried utility yourself.
04Check the outcome, not only the repair
After reconnection, ask how the provider will check the repaired line and restore the access area. Confirm the scope and any follow-up instructions before the excavation is closed.
