01When replacement enters the conversation
A provider may discuss replacement when failures repeat, the line is extensively damaged or a repair is unlikely to resolve the wider condition. Ask what evidence supports that recommendation and how it compares with a targeted repair.
02Check route and access early
The path from the supply boundary to the building, buried utilities, driveways and landscaping all affect planning. Clarify where access pits or an open trench would go and how the water service would be coordinated.
03Understand the proposed method
Open excavation and trenchless installation have different requirements. A trenchless method is not automatically suitable or entirely excavation-free. Ask why the selected approach fits your property and existing line.
04Include reconnection and restoration
Discuss how the new line connects to the building, what testing will be performed and who handles disturbed soil or surfaces. Get the scope, permissions, pricing and any applicable warranty directly from the provider.
